The latest design from the Jade Fiend studio. A subtle carving of Guānyīn the Goddess of Mercy using the different colours of this gem quality jade to give depth and extra meaning. She is standing on a lotus flower and behind her is the Wheel of Life 轮回 (lúnhuí), which represents reincarnation and the cyclical nature of existence. Guānyīn originated in Buddhist India as a male god. His name, when translated into Chinese, means ‘he who listens to the woes of the world’. On reaching China he underwent a sex change and become the goddess of mercy. She is not only part of the Buddhist pantheon. She has also been adopted by Daoism and other Eastern religions
