Fox Mask pendant

US$89.00

The Fox is central to Chinese folklore  A fox's power grows with its age . After 100 years, it can become a beautiful lady,  by the age of 1,000 a fox grows nine tails, gains golden fur, and ascends to heaven. The most famous (and infamous) fox spirit is Daji, a nine-tailed fox who became a beautiful woman to seduce and ruin the last tyrant of the Shang Dynasty.

Foxes are regarded as knowledgeable and wise, often depicted in art with a book in their mouths to signify their scholarly nature. In Chinese literature—like Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio—they are often portrayed as loyal lovers, drinking companions, and the friends of scholars. These delicate pendants are carved from the finest emerald green jade and finished with a gold plated silver bezel.
