Yin and Yang

This Yin Yang pendant is one of my signature pieces. The principle behind Yin Yang is that all things exist as opposites, for example, female-male, dark-light and old-young. It is a fundamental concept in Chinese philosophy and culture.

The symbol itself is thousands of years old. It is known as the Taijitu and is a visual representation of these principles. The S-Curve represents the constant ebbing and flowing of the two forces into each other. The small dot of the opposite color in each half shows that no force is absolute; there is always Yin within Yang and vice versa. The Outer Circle represents the entirety of the universe as a unified whole.

I have fused two jades to create this symbol, the Taijitu. The white jade is from Lake Baikal in Siberia, the same mine where Faberge used to get the stone for his work. The black jade comes from Wyoming. It is known as Edwards Black and is considered by many to be the best β€˜ink’ jade in the world. Click HERE or on the picture to learn more.
