Upcoming exhibitions of Jade
I am preparing for a very exciting and busy October. During the first half of the month I will be attending what many consider to be the world’s greatest jade festival in Suzhou, China. Hundreds of jade carvers from around China will be exhibiting in an exhibition known as Zi Gang Bei. They will be joined by some Western jade artists who have been invited to show their work. I will be busy showing them around and introducing them to Chinese jade culture. More than 100,00 people will view the jades on display during the three day festival.
Then in the second half of October I am once again honoured to be a judge in the Congress of Latin American Jade Carvers being held in Antigua, Guatemala. The work done by this emerging band of Latin American jade artists is quite stunning. It doesn’t yet quite rival the Chinese masters but the creativity and imagination in the best of their work comes pretty close. Full of fire and passion. A great contrast to the gentle subtlety in the carvings that come from the Middle Kingdom.
I shall keep you posted with photos of the best of the jades from each exhibition. Watch this space! And don’t forget, my book, A Jade Treasury, which explores the myths and legends from around the world surrounding the Stone of Heaven is available on Amazon.
