Secrets of the Jade Industry 3
There are two main sources of white jade in Xinjiang province in northwest China. The most famous of course are the boulders and pebbles dredged from in and around the White and Black Jade Rivers in Hetian. There is also the white mountain jade that is mined a few hundred kilometres to the West in the Kunlun mountains near the town of Qiemo. In this short video, the first clip shows you mountain jade, the second clip show you river jade. It is quite easy to see the difference between the two jades. The white mountain jade is perhaps a better colour but the river jade is denser, it has a far tighter grain.
